Inside Bordeaux Jane Anson - 10 Oct 24
These were the years where I struggled with the over-concentration in La Dominique, and tasting it at 15 years old underlines the progress that has been made at this property by the recent team. Exuberant in style, with grilled blueberries, fig and raspberries, sandalwood and incense. 50% new oak for ageing. Yannick Evenou director, arriving in 2009 and staying until 2015. 48hl/h yield.

The 2009 La Dominique is missing freshness and a sense of energy on the nose, just like the previous two vintages. Strangely, I would never guess this as a 2009 just by the lack of exuberance and joie-de-vivre. The palate is medium-bodied and thankfully shows better than the aromatics. There is good weight in the mouth and a fine bead of acidity, slightly savoury in style with allspice and white pepper towards the finish. The final half actually deserves a much better set of aromatics. Tasted at the vertical tasting at La Dominique.

Bordeaux

Red Bordeaux, globally renowned, is crafted in France’s Bordeaux region from grapes like Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Cabernet Franc. These full-bodied wines feature dark fruit flavours, earthy and spicy notes, and often benefit from ageing. Top producers include Château Margaux, Château Latour, and Château Lafite Rothschild. White Bordeaux, made from Sauvignon Blanc and Sémillon, offers styles from crisp to rich, with citrus and tropical notes. Sweet Bordeaux wines, like Sauternes, are famed for their rich sweetness and flavours of apricot and honey, with Château d’Yquem as a leading producer.
